Swapping USDT to USDC takes one order; the network on each side matters most

USDT and USDC are different stablecoins from different issuers, and each exists on many networks. A swap service shows which network it expects for your deposit and which one it delivers on, so the main job is to match both to your wallets. On SimpleSwap and ChangeNOW a stablecoin swap needs no account for most crypto-to-crypto orders.

USDT TRC20, ERC20, BEP20

The suffix is a token standard that exchanges use as a network label. By convention ERC20 means Ethereum mainnet, TRC20 means Tron and BEP20 means BNB Smart Chain. ERC-20 itself is used on every EVM chain, so USDC on Arbitrum or Base is also an ERC-20 token. The same coin on two networks needs two different deposits.

Are USDT and USDC the same thing?

USDT (USD₮)

  • Issued by Tether.
  • Tether says 1 USD₮ is meant to equal 1 USD, pegged 1-to-1.
  • Tether states every token is fully backed by its reserves.

USDC

  • Issued by Circle.
  • Circle describes it as a digital dollar redeemable 1:1 for US dollars.
  • Each network has its own official contract address, published by Circle.
  • 13networks on Tether's current list of supported USD₮ protocolstether.to
  • 38blockchains where Circle says USDC is natively issuedcircle.com
  • 5older networks where Tether no longer issues or redeems USD₮tether.to

On which blockchains is USDT and USDC officially issued?

USDT, per Tether's supported protocols page: Ethereum (ERC20), Tron (TRC20), Solana, TON (Jetton), Avalanche, Celo, Kaia, Cosmos via Kava, Liquid, Polkadot AssetHub, Tezos, NEAR and Aptos.

Tether no longer issues or redeems USD₮ on Omni (Bitcoin), Bitcoin Cash SLP, Kusama, EOS and Algorand.

USDC, per Circle's contract address list, includes Ethereum, Solana, Arbitrum, Base, OP Mainnet, Polygon PoS, Avalanche C-Chain, Stellar, Sui, NEAR, Aptos, XRPL and others, 38 in total.

How to swap USDT to USDC step by step

  1. Pick the pair and both networks

Choose USDT on the network you hold it on, and USDC on the network your receiving wallet uses.

  2. Paste the receiving address

Copy it from your wallet for the USDC network you chose, and check it character by character.

  3. Choose fixed or floating

A fixed rate locks the price for a set window, 20 minutes on SimpleSwap; a floating rate settles at execution.

  4. Send the deposit on the network the order shows

Not on another network that also carries USDT.

  5. Track the order

Use the order ID until the USDC arrives in your wallet.

Check the network before you send

Pick the network the order asks for and the network your sending wallet is set to.

Pick both networks.

Then paste the receiving address to see which format it looks like.

The format hint appears here. Nothing is sent anywhere: the check runs in your browser.
A format match is a hint, not proof of the right network: the same 0x format is used on many EVM networks.

Can I send USDT TRC20 to an ERC20 address?

A Tron address starts with T and is 34 characters long; an Ethereum address is 0x followed by 40 hex characters. They are different networks, and a transfer happens only on the network you choose.

The harder case is between EVM networks: BNB Smart Chain and Ethereum share the same address format, so a matching format does not prove you picked the right network (Binance Academy).

Myth

It is the same coin, so any network works.

Fact

Blockchains are isolated systems. A token sent on one network does not appear on another (ethereum.org).

Myth

Same address means same network.

Fact

The same 0x address is used on many EVM networks, so the address alone does not reveal the network (Kraken).

Myth

Support can always pull it back.

Fact

If you control the keys, you may reach the funds by importing the wallet on the other network. If the funds went to a custodial address, only that provider can act, and recovery is not guaranteed (Binance Academy).

Before you send

  1. Receiving addressCheck it character by character before you confirm.
  2. NetworkSend and receive on the network the order shows.
  3. Seed phrase and keysKeep them private. Neither service will ever ask for them.
  4. FinalityNo swap service can reverse a confirmed blockchain transaction.

Questions

Are USDT and USDC the same thing?

No. USDT is issued by Tether and USDC by Circle, each with its own reserves, contracts and supported networks. Swapping one for the other is a normal crypto-to-crypto order.

What does USDT TRC20, ERC20 and BEP20 mean?

The suffix is a token standard used as a network label: ERC20 conventionally means Ethereum mainnet, TRC20 means Tron, BEP20 means BNB Smart Chain.

Tether's list of supported USD₮ networks includes Ethereum and Tron but not BNB Smart Chain.

Which network is best for swapping USDT?

Use the network your wallet already holds the USDT on, and the network your receiving wallet supports for USDC. The order shows both, and both must match your wallets.

What happens if I send USDT on the wrong network?

The tokens arrive on the network you actually used. If you control the keys, you can often reach them by importing the wallet on that network.

If they went to a custodial address, only its provider can help, and not every case can be recovered.

Do I need an account to swap USDT to USDC?

Not for most crypto-to-crypto swaps on SimpleSwap or ChangeNOW. You send from your wallet and receive in your wallet.
